General Information Insurance CompaniesAdmittedly, I have a biased opinion of insurance companies. They are my enemies in my cases. Practicing law has taught me a lot about what insurance companies really are and what they are out to accomplish. My experience though makes practical sense when you consider that an insurance company is a business, and businesses only have their own best interests in mind. All businesses fight to reduce their losses. Insurance companies make their money off premiums, not paying claims. So they will naturally fight you to pay you as little as possible. Keep this primary thought in your mind when dealing with an insurance company, both your's and the other guy's: The insurance company is not happy to help you in anyway. You are an expense. Nobody likes paying expenses, they like receiving money. No matter what kind of neighbor they claim to be, how fast or courteous they claim to be, or how fair they seem to be treating you; your claim is a business loss, and all businesses seek to reduce losses. If the insurance company is being nice to you and being happy to help you, it is likely they feel like they are winning the fight to pay you as little as possible.
